Profile Theatre’s 2026-2027 Season continues our journey through the work of two of the brightest stars of contemporary theatre, Featured Playwrights Mike Lew, and Jen Silverman! In the second year of our two-year cycle, we explore the more recent plays in our Playwrights’ bodies of work, and create something brand new for Portland, for Profile, and for our audience!
Profile’s seasons are unlike any experience available in Portland. Join us for the entire season!
“Friends,

Over the last year, you’ve gotten to see first-hand why the work of Jen Silverman and Mike Lew has taken my breath away for many years. They are among the most theatrical artistic visions I know, grappling with the most complex questions of our time in innovative, thought-provoking and hilarious ways.
In the 2026-2027 season, we will share their most recent work and support them to say something new and fresh that meets the present moment. These productions will be our most ambitious to date.
Spain’s sweeping scope and multi-disciplinary form will give you an epic experience about the nature of art and democracy, and we’re thrilled to partner in its creation with Portland Opera and 45th Parallel, two orgs I’ve long admired.
Tiny Father is a tender and intimate story of fatherhood, a mid-life play from one of the finest comic writers today.
It’s always a thrill to commission and premiere new work by writers who are pushing the entire field forward. Mike Lew’s Alpha Asians, a Profile commission, explores questions of Asian-American masculinity and coalition-building that I’ve never seen on stage before, all with Mike’s signature slapstick and wicked humor.
I hope you’ll join us for a season that will make you think and make you laugh in equal measure.”
– Artistic Director Josh Hecht
2026-2027 Season Schedule

October 22nd – November 8th, 2026
An updated and revised script, penned specifically for our production!
Step into a slippery world where the line between truth and fiction is all in the packaging. It’s 1936, and a pair of passionate filmmakers have landed their next big project: a sweeping Spanish Civil War film with the potential to change American hearts and minds. It just happens to be bankrolled by the KGB. Spain by Jen Silverman is a seductive and tense thriller about the power of art to change the world – for better and for worse.
One of the most ambitious productions in recent Profile history, Spain is a grand cross-disciplinary spectacle featuring multiple partnerships with arts organizations throughout Portland, including live opera developed in partnership with Portland Opera, and both recorded and live music performed by musicians with 45th Parallel!

The most recent play from Mike Lew!
Overnight, easygoing Daniel’s life is flipped upside down when a friends-with-benefits situation leaves him the only-father of a baby girl delivered three months early. He begins to learn the ins and outs of caring for a premature baby with the help of tough-love NICU nurse Caroline. But Daniel has a growing distrust of rigid hospital protocols, and Caroline harbors doubt in Daniel’s fitness as a father. Exploring the tension between parents, healthcare professionals, and hospitals, Tiny Father is a hilarious and heartfelt battle-of-wills.
Profile’s production marks only the third time this script has seen the stage, previously produced by Barrington Stage Company and the Chataqua Institution and LA’s Geffen Playhouse. Our production brings Mike back to Portland to continue to refine and evolve the script with Portland actors – our audiences will be the first to see the newest revised script!

A WORLD PREMIERE PROFILE THEATRE COMMISSION!
June 3rd – June 20th, 2027
BROS! Listen up. The truly dope brothers of Asian-American fraternity Alpha Zeta Nu (AZN) are about to embark on an epic pledge week of partying, ball taps, and absolutely based fraternal camaraderie. That is, until their Greek life comes face-to-face with Greek tragedy. Featured Playwright Mike Lew examines Asian-American identity, toxic masculinity, and pervasive stereotypes around Asian men, and does so with some serious comedy chops.
This production is the world-premiere of a Profile Theatre commission! Over the past two years, we have worked in close partnership with Mike to develop this script. Our audiences have had the unique experience of watching this script grow – having heard the very first draft at our 2025 Playwright Festival. We could not be more excited to share this distinctly Profile show with you!

Meet our Featured Playwrights!

Jen Silverman is a multi-hyphenate playwright, poet, and novelist whose work has been produced nationally and internationally, on and off Broadway. Their plays balance lyricism with grounded sincerity, and highlight the power of hope in seemingly hopeless times. Silverman is a Guggenheim Fellow, a three-time MacDowell Fellow, and recipient of the Yale Drama Series Award. Their play The Roommate recently closed its Broadway run, with Mia Farrow and Pattie LuPone in the leading roles.

Mike Lew leverages his razor-sharp wit and bombastic energy to create plays that are as hilarious as they are thought-provoking. A Chinese-American playwright, Lew’s work is a rioutous melding of personal, familial and cultural identities into one explosive comedic mix. He is a Tony voter, Dramatists Guild Council member, New Dramatists Resident, and recipient of the Richard Rogers Award. He is former co-director of Ma-Yi Writers Lab, the largest collective of Asian-American playwrights in the country.
