Mother Russia by Lauren Yee

Fall, 1992 –  St. Petersburg, Russia. It has been three years since the wall has fallen, almost a year since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Perestroika, yo! People are starting to recycle. How strange.

Mother Russia is a heightened, free-wheeling comedy that asks big questions around societal collapse, free will, and power. Why do we crave strongmen? Why is choice terrifying? And what does it take to rebuild society?

Casting the following roles:

EUVGENY – Russian, male, twenty-five. Bright, earnest, an overachiever and a rule-follower eager to understand how he fits into the new world order. Well-meaning and sincere, if a little skittish.

DMITRI – Russian, male, twenty-five. His laissez-faire, laid back and cocky demeanor bely his deep insecurities about his status, and unease with a changing world. Aspiring ladies man. Wants nothing more than to return to peak Soviet Union and join the KGB.
