In Dialogue Staged Readings include new and contemporary plays in conversation with Tanya Barfield’s body of work, as well as readings of Barfield plays not included in our Main Stage season.

We are pleased to announce the final In Dialogue Reading of our 2016 Tanya Barfield Season:

Hazardous Beauty by Bonnie Ratner
Directed by Josie Seid
Co-produced with Community Dreams Productions
October 3rd & 4th, 2017  at 7:30pm
Morrison Stage

Two women – one black, one white – meet in a memoir writing at a Portland college. As writers, they have license to critique each other’s work, but because this is a class on memoir, what results is often a laser-like critique of each other’s lives – sometimes painful, sometimes sad, sometimes joyful, and often very funny. Can they be allies for each other on this writer’s journey or will hard words fly,old wounds fester, and women weep? And what does it matter?

When speaking with Tanya Barfield about selecting a fourth title for our In Dialogue Series this season, Ms. Barfield expressed an interest in having the reading serve as a platform for a local writer, who would appreciate the opportunity to share their work with Profile audiences.  Ms. Ratner’s play is perfectly poised to be in conversation with Ms. Barfield’s body of work; Hazardous Beauty explores issues of race and gender, while examining the sometimes painful act of composing a piece of writing, and the role our personal experience plays in our individual creative expression.
