“It’s gone. That moment to speak the truth.  He’ll ask again. I’ll lie again.”

“Profile Theatre’s production both humorous, poignant” – The Oregonian

Greeted by Frank Rich in his NY Times review as Terrence McNally’s “most ambitious and most accomplished play yet”, Lips Together, Teeth Apart is a portrait of two married couples who find themselves to be the outsiders when they come to Fire Island for the July 4 weekend.

Sally’s brother has just died of AIDS. Together with her husband Sam – along with his sister Chloe and her husband John – they head for the Fire Island beach house left to Sally by her brother. Seeking closure and a chance to escape, the foursome instead find themselves confronting the ghosts that inhabit the beautiful home, and the equally haunting secrets inhabiting their lives and marriages. Over the course of a day, they grapple with exposed fears and discomforts over homosexuality and AIDS – along with the complexities of their own relationships.

“The one new American play that must be seen.” Frank Rich, NY Times
